MACRS 5 Year Property for both Half-Year Convention and Mid-Quarter Convetion

The MARCS depreciation table for 5 year property above is a combination of two methods, the Half-Year Convention and Mid-Quarter Convention. A “5 year property” is actually spread across 6 periods, or years. As an example, if a property is in year 2 of the Half-Year Convention, the percentage used would be 32.00 per the MACRS depreciation table above. Whereas if the property were to be used under the Mid-Quarter Convention in year 2, the percentages would be 26% if the property were placed into service in the 1st quarter, 30% if placed into service in the 2nd quarter, 34% if placed into service in the 3rd quarter, or 38% if placed into service in the 4th quarter.

The MACRS depreciation table for 7 year property above is a combination of the Half-Year Convention and Mid-Quarter Convention but spread across 8 years. As an example, if the property were placed into service in year 4 under the Half-Year Convention, the percentage used would be 12.49%. Under the Mid-Quarter Convention in year 4, the property would be subject to 10.93% if placed into service in the 1st quarter, 11.97% if placed into service in the 2nd quarter, 13.02% if placed into service in the 3rd quarter, 14.06% if placed into service in the 4th quarter.
